Pop! Review: Hunchback’s Quasimodo & Esmeralda

For today’s review, I take a closer look at two releases from Funko’s Pop! Vinyls line of characters from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Arriving in early 2020, these two pieces were released retail wide here in the US. Here is Quasimodo and Esmeralda.

The Disney movie that these two Pop! Vinyls are based off of, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, hit the big screens in 1996. Based off the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo, Hunchback tells of a hunchbacked man (Quasimodo) that resides in the bell towers of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. He falls in love with a gypsy (Esmeralda) and the story takes some interesting turns because of it. Even though Disney took a bit of poetic licensing with the retelling of this story (per the norm), the music is top notch and this is one of my favorite Disney musicals because of it. When I saw they were coming out with Pop! Vinyls for this movie, I knew I had to pick up at least a couple of them.

In these sculpts, a worried Quasimodo is holding a wooden figure of himself that he made. Esmeralda is playing her tambourine as part of her gypsy band. I would have loved to have seen Esmeralda come with a little sidekick version of her goat Djani, but that’s nitpicking. I really appreciate the look of these two sculpts.

Previously back in 2019, I reviewed one of the convention exclusives featuring Quasimodo from Hunchback. In that release, he was holding Hugo, one of his trusty gargoyle friends. With adding these two to my collection, I am only missing the Quasimodo Pop! Vinyl where he is the King of Fools.

Even though these pieces were released over three years ago, you can still pick them up at places like Entertainment Earth. Check them out for great deals on Funko, Disney, and more!
