Review: Build-A-Bear’s Doctor Who Collection

For today’s review, I wanted to share with you all a look at a beary-special collection from Build-A-Bear that I got last year… and just getting around to fully reviewing now! (Whoops!) As some of you know, I am a Whovian, or one that is a fan of the British TV Series Doctor Who. To celebrate the series last year, Build-A-Bear released a special online-exclusive version of their popular teddy bear. This light tan bear showcases the BABW logo on the right hand (as most of their plush currently do), as well as two blue hearts embroidered on its chest (representing the twin hearts that The Doctor has) and a special design on the soles of the feet sporting a T.A.R.D.I.S. blueprint and the Doctor Who logo.

Additionally, Build-A-Bear released three costumes representing three of the more famous doctors from the most recent Doctor Who series: Tenth Doctor, Eleventh Doctor, and Thirteenth Doctor. Also released was a plush Dalek to go along with the bears, and two different T.A.R.D.I.S. gift boxes, which took place of the normal Build-A-Bear boxes.

Did I maybe go a bit overboard when I placed my order? It’s possible, but hey… I wanted to be a completionist. Anyways, here is a in-hand look at the entire collection.

The Tenth Doctor

The Tenth Doctor’s outfit included his brown suit and trench coat, white sneakers, glasses, and special sonic screwdriver.

The Eleventh Doctor

The Eleventh Doctor’s outfit comes with his suit (complete with bow tie), black shoes, his iconic fez, and special sonic screwdriver.

The Thirteenth Doctor

The Thirteenth Doctor’s outfit includes her rainbow-y clothing and trench coat, brown boots, and a special sonic screwdriver.

Each of the bears also comes with a Birth Certificate that you fill out when you purchase it online. For each of the bears, I chose their name as their favorite catchphrase, birthdate as the date that their namesakes first appeared on screen, and one of their favorite companions as who it was “Belongs to” (but in reality, they are for my collection). Here is the one for the Eleventh Doctor.

Dalek Plush

This “sidekick” plush is the perfect accompaniment to the bears. It’s one of the most famous of the Doctor Who villain species, and is ready to “EXTERMINATE!”.

T.A.R.D.I.S. Keepsake Boxes

The two designs of the T.A.R.D.I.S (The Doctor’s ship) represent the exterior of the time machine as it appeared during the reigns of the Eleventh (darker blue) and Thirteenth (lighterblue) Doctors.

There is one item that I have not gotten yet, and that would be a SECOND outfit for the Tenth Doctor. The Tenth Doctor was known to have two pronounced looks. The first one I already have but the second one includes the famous 3D Glasses and a blue suit instead of brown. Looks like it is still available online (probably because it was released later than the other pieces), so I will probably pick it up soon… if I already haven’t done so by the time this review posts.

This is a really great collection released by Build-A-Bear, and I am glad that I picked most of it up before most of it sold out. A few pieces are still available online at the Build-A-Bear website, but most you would have to find on the secondary market if you’d like to add it to your Doctor Who collection.
